The Welcome Home Collection

Andrea Sanchez

With a new baby on the way last fall, I obviously had baby knits on the brain. I wanted baby knits that would be classic, unfussy, and timeless. So here is the Welcome Home Collection! It's a mini-collection with three pieces that can be knit for any lucky baby.

My first project (that I finished knitting in November!) was the Welcome Home Blanket. I am so in love with this blanket! When D was born I knit him a bunch of blankets so with Little #2 coming along I wanted a special blanket that could become an heirloom piece. This blanket features a slipped stitch pattern with ribbed hems and a cable running up the edges. Knit in Anzula For Better or Worsted this blanket it cozy, sophisticated, and has an amazing sheen that is perfect with that stitch pattern.

The Welcome Home Cardigan is the perfect unisex cardigan. It is a great mix of texture and simplicity with a stockinette body and double seed stitch in the yoke. I love that the right buttons can make this either masculine or feminine!

The Welcome Home Pullover is a sweet pullover with some fun textured detailing on the cuffs, hem, and collar. The A-line makes it a bit more girly, but if you don't like that it, just start by casting on the final chest stitch count. Both of the sweaters in this collection are knit using Swans Island Organic Washable Sport. I am in love with how soft this is and the muted tone of the colors in their palette. I also love that the yarn is organically processed to be washable (you don't hear that one every day!). I haven't tried washing it through the washing machine, but I think I might let my swatch take a test drive...

I'm hoping many of you will find this collection just right for any new baby. All babies deserve to be wrapped lovingly in hand knits and hopefully one of these pieces will be perfect for your new addition. You can purchase any of these patterns individually, or as an ebook for a savings of $7. Right now they are only up on Ravelry, but I should have them here within a day or two! Happy knitting!
