As with every Christmas sweater I've knit before, I am always so excited to release the pattern and share the finished photos with you all. And this one is no exception. I'll even let you in on a secret: It may just be my favorite!
Winter Cocoa is all about the texture. There is just something about a lot of texture in a garment that makes me want to knit non-stop all winter.
When I was thinking about designing this piece, I really wanted something that was classic but with an updated feel. I didn't want the cables to be overwhelming, and I always like a little bit of stockinette in sweaters. This piece jumped right from my mind to the needles. The cables are relatively simple, as is the textured chest panel. And the rest of the sweater is stockinette.
As with many of my designs, it is knit bottom up, joining body and sleeves at the underarm. Once you get to that point, it's like, knit knit knit BOOM! sweater. Love it. I also used a folded collar (similar to what i've used in other patterns). The key to getting this just right is sewing down those live stitches WAY loose. I would stop every few minutes to stretch the collar just to make sure it's loose enough.
The photos for this turned out perfect. It was a cold day (although not that bad in the grand scheme of midwestern things) and of course D didn't want to take his coat off. My my friend and photographer (and former kindergarten teacher) is awesome and convinced D to take his coat off long enough to get these darling shots! I'm always impressed by her.
As with many of my children's designs, this piece is available in sizes 6 months - 12 years and uses the amazing YOTH Yarns Big Sister in the color Cacao. I am in love people!
