The Night Before December

Andrea Sanchez

I have a tendency to be a kind of fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of person from time to time. It's how I learned to crochet when I was a teenager (Hmmm... it's cold. I think tonight I'll make an afghan) and it's kind of how I approach new projects.

So now that I've shared that, it should come as no surprise when I saw these completely adorable Advent Calendar patterns go on sale after Thanksgiving and thought, "Yes! I have been wanting to make one of these forever!" (also, it's only been like a year). I purchased the pattern and headed to the craft store Friday afternoon (by the way, total mistake. Lines at noon were still crazy).

I didn't get started on it until Saturday night. I managed to embroider all the numbers and then Sunday I painstakingly sewed all the sequins and beads to the border of the Christmas tree. It was oh! so painful, but totally worth it because that three is amazing! I still have a bunch of little ornamanets to do so I can't get too excited just yet. Oh yea, and we are in the midst of week before Winter 2015 collection launch business over here (so exciting! so exhausting!).

I really want D and Little #2 to have this for many Christmases to come but the truth is, I know D is just 3 and his biggest concern is decorating the tree. The whole day-by-day part of the calendar will probably be lost on him this year. So that buys me some time as well.

I have of course seen many other types of Advent Calendars popping up on Instagram and Pinterest. Do you keep a sort of Advent Calendar with your kiddos? I'd love to hear about your own family tradition.
